Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, or PCOS for short, can be a frustrating syndrome. It is found increasingly in teenagers as well as adult women. There are natural treatments for PCOS, often increasing fertility, reducing cysts on the ovaries, eliminating PMS, and reversing estrogen dominance.
Because of the higher levels of testosterone
and estrogen that occur in the female body when these cysts form
each monthly cycle, the weight that is put on (often quickly, perhaps
all in one year of life) can be very difficult to shed, even with
constant dieting and exercise.
Losing weight from PCOS is difficult because most, if not all, women with PCOS are shown to have insulin resistance, the precursor to Metabolic Syndrome. This must be treated before the weight problems and hormonal fluctuations can be successfully addressed.
I believe that PCOS is a result of a combination of Estrogen Dominance and Insulin Resistance, both of which are treatable.
You must do your part, by adding exercise and modifying your diet to decrease simple carbohydrates and increase complex carbohydrates in the form of vegetables. Avoiding eating "white" foods - like sugar, white flour, white rice, potatoes, and more, is a good place to start.
The Schwarzbein Principle is a book that details a diet plan that is appropriate for this condition. You must also address the underlying problem with proper vitamins, herbs and supplements.
In my clinic, I often found PCOS very difficult to treat. Despite other websites that might say they can fix it easily, women don't always respond quickly to progesterone and simple herbs and supplements to treat Polycystic Ovaries.
After years of searching, I have finally found a group of products that DOES help alleviate the symptoms of PCOS.
To help heal PCOS, consider purchasing my Brand Name Vitamin and Supplement Product Reviews so that you don't waste money on products that won't help you. I specifically name some products that I saw give excellent results with PCOS.
How do you know if you have Polycystic Ovaries?
You might exhibit some or all of these symptoms:
Ovarian Cysts
Irregular menstrual cycle
Painful menstrual cycle
infertility
Fast weight gain
Thinning hair on the head
Excess hair on the body
Sweet Cravings
Low Energy
High levels of testosterone
Low levels of progesterone
Weight gain through the middle of the body
Adult Acne
Insulin Resistance
To be fully diagnosed, you need to have your hormones tested by a doctor. An ultrasound of your ovaries will reveal if you have cysts or other issues.
And here's a little more technical info:
Ovarian Cysts
There are three main types of ovarian cysts:
Follicular cysts are functional cysts that develop when the follicle fails to grow and discharge the egg. These cysts, which can be painful, can grow up to 7 centimeters, but they usually disappear on their own.
Luteal Cysts are functional cysts that form when the mature egg is discharged from the follicle at ovulation. Some cysts may cause pain; dull pain is often associated with chronic conditions such as endometriosis, while sharp pain is associated with a burst cyst, though these are not definitive signs.
Benign Neoplastic Cysts are cysts comprised of cells other than ovarian tissue cells that form at any point during the cycle.
